Meet Dubai siblings who became Nike football athletes

At Royal Grammar School Guildford Dubai, two young footballers are proving that age is just a number. Nine-year-old Zayn Ali Salman and his 12-year-old sister Zahra Salman have both been signed as Nike MENA Football Athletes — a major milestone for two students who balance homework with high-level training. Zayn was first scouted by Arsenal at just four years old and joined the club’s academy. At eight, he signed a three-year contract with Nike, becoming one of the youngest members of the Nike family. He trains regularly in the UK and competes in elite European tournaments. In Dubai, he plays for Cognita Enrich ME. “Football is everything to me,” Zayn said. “I want to keep working hard every day so that one day I can play professionally. My school helps me stay focused on both football and learning – it means a lot.” Zayn has also appeared on popular football YouTube channels and recently filmed with global entertainer KSI in London. Meanwhile, Zahra, a fast and skilled left-wing midfielder, has also signed with Nike as a MENA Football Athlete. She has been called up to represent the UAE and has also been selected for the Iraqi U15 team. While in London, she was scouted by Chelsea FC and other clubs. “I love proving that girls can play just as well as boys,” Zahra said. “Playing for the UAE is such an honour, and I want to keep improving. My school’s support helps me manage training, travel, and my studies – it really makes a difference.” She trains with the Under-15 boys Cognita Enrich ME team and was recently named Sports Personality of the Year by the academy. She is also a Girls’ Sports Ambassador at her school.
