Road in Indonesia named after Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed

  JAKARTA – A major road in Indonesia has been renamed after Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces. Indonesian President Joko Widodo ordered the renaming of the road in appreciation of the ties between the UAE and Indonesia. The Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan Elevated Toll Road was launched on Monday (April 12) with the attendance of Abdullah Salem Al Dhahri, UAE Ambassador to Indonesia, and other local government officials. The 37-kilometre road is one of Indonesia’s key strategic roads and was inaugurated by President Widodo in 2019. It is the longest elevated road in the country and the fastest double highway in Southeast Asia. “The Indonesian Government decided to name this vital and strategic road after His Highness Sheikh Mohamed in recognition of the distinguished bilateral ties between the two friendly countries,” said Dr. Pratinko, Minister for State Secretariat of the Republic of Indonesia. "Relations between the UAE and Indonesia have witnessed significant political, economic, cultural and social development since their establishment in 1976," Pratinko added, noting that the UAE has become a leading investor in Indonesia after announcing a $10 billion investment the Indonesian Sovereign Fund. Ties between the UAE and Indonesia have become tighter. In March, the UAE announced that it will build a new Sheikh Zayed Mosque in Indonesia. The mosque will be built with the support of Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed. In October 2020, Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed also ordered the construction of a mosque in Abu Dhabi’s embassy district, which will be named after Indonesian President Widodo. Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed also ordered the renaming of Abu Dhabi’s Al Maarid Street to President Joko Widodo Street. ICA/Expat Media
