A Dubai court has upheld a ruling sentencing an Asian man to one month in prison and a fine of Dh360,000 for stealing a Rolls-Royce vehicle from a luxury car showroom in Ras Al Khor. The court also ordered the man's deportation following his sentence, according to reports on Saturday (September 7). The case dates back to March 2023 when the showroom owner reported the theft. The accused had requested to test drive the luxury car with the intent of purchasing it. However, after taking possession of the vehicle, the man refused to return it or pay its value. Upon contacting the police, an investigation revealed that the accused had taken the Rolls-Royce to a repair shop for testing, where it was found to have certain malfunctions. The defendant then claimed he had a partnership with the showroom owner and another individual and that the vehicle was collateral for his investment rights. The court, however, found no evidence supporting these claims. During interrogation, the defendant admitted to taking the vehicle but denied any criminal intent. The available documentation contradicted his assertions, leading to the court’s conclusion that the crime had been committed with both material and moral elements fully established. ICA/Expat Media
