RTA announces road closure for Dubai Marathon

The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) in Dubai has announced a major road closure on Sunday (February 12) for the Dubai Marathon. According to the RTA, there will be a gradual closure of Sheikh Zayed Bin Hamdan Al Nahyan Street from Dubai Expo City and Hessa Street in both directions starting from 4am. The road will be gradually reopened to motorists starting at 11am, and will be fully opened to traffic at 1pm, according to the RTA. This year’s Dubai Marathon will be held for the first time at Expo City Dubai. The marathon will be held from 6am until 1pm.

Dubai Metro to open early for Dubai Marathon

According to the RTA, The Dubai Metro operating hours will be changed to accommodate marathon runners and spectators. Metro service on February 12 will start at 4am instead of 8am. The Dubai Marathon at Expo City Dubai features three runs: the full 42.195km marathon open to runners over 18 years old; the 10km road race open to runners over 15 years old; and the 4km fun run open to all. The Dubai Marathon returns this year after a two-year break due to the pandemic. Elite athletes are expected to compete, including former champion Tsegaye Mekonnen Asefa from Ethiopia. The marathon is bringing together elite athletes from around the world after a break of two years due to the pandemic. Elite athletes due to take part in the marathon include Ethiopian running star and former champion Tsegaye Mekonnen Asefa.
