RTA to tow, impound cars under new deal

The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) in Dubai can now tow and impound cars, heavy vehicles and trailers that violate traffic laws. This comes after the RTA recently signed an agreement with Emirates Parkings, allowing the authority to tow and impound vehicles, as well as fine drivers found violating traffic rules. Previously only the Dubai Police, in cooperation with Emirates Auction, could tow and impound vehicles. Under the newly-signed agreement, the RTA can impound vehicles that violate federal and local traffic rules. It can also impound food trucks, boats and bicycles. Under the agreement, the RTA and Emirates Parkings are linked to enhance the impounding system, as well as traffic and electronic systems. The system maintains all records of auctioning impounded vehicles that have been left unclaimed. Emirates Parkings is responsible for managing the impounding yard, including providing surveillance cameras and trained personnel.
