RTA upgrades drainage in 4 areas after heavy rain pummels UAE

The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) in Dubai has upgraded the drainage of roads where flooding can occur after heavy rain. The upgrade comes after a major storm swept through the UAE last weekend, sending downpours with about six months’ worth of rain. Abu Dhabi recorded 78mm or rain, the highest recorded in the country, followed by Fujairah’s Al FarFar area with 77.4mm of rainfall. Meanwhile, RTA’s road improvement project covered Margham, Lehbab, Al Lesaili and Hatta, with a focus on drainage, street lighting and pavement. Here are the changes:

New road in Hatta

A new 2km-long road has been constructed at Suhaila in Hatta, and equipped with rainwater drainage and street lights.

Lighting in Al Lesaili near Last Exit and Al Qudra Lakes

Street lights have been upgraded in existing roads at Saih Assalam near the Last Exit and Al Qudra Lakes. The project spans over 7km.

Road extended in Margham near Skydive Dubai

Roads have been extended by 5km in an area along Dubai-Al Ain Road, near Skydive Dubai. The project included the construction of pavements and rainwater drainage networks and the installation of street lights.

Lehbab near camel racetrack

In Lehbab, pavements have been extended by 4km and equipped with rainwater drainage. Street lights were also installed. Lighting fixtures were also upgraded in existing streets extending 2km at Dubai-Hatta Road beside the Lehbab Camels’ Racetrack. ICA/Expat Media
