The Roads and Transportation Authority (RTA) has warned against bribing driving instructors in exchange for passing tests or training classes required for obtaining a driving license in the UAE. In its manual for motorists, the RTA stated that offering money, gifts, or favors to any instructor, assessor, or examiner is considered bribery and will result in police intervention and legal action. The RTA emphasized the importance of adhering to the proper process of obtaining a driving license, which includes enrolling in a registered driving institute, completing the required training, and passing all necessary tests. Residents and citizens are reminded that after successfully completing the process, they can obtain a driving license valid for two years for citizens, GCC nationals, and other nationalities. To be eligible for a driving license in the UAE, individual customers must be of legal age and medically fit. The minimum age requirements vary depending on the type of vehicle: 17 years for motorcycles and vehicles for people with special needs, 18 years for cars and light vehicles, 20 years for heavy vehicles and tractors, and 21 years for buses. The process for obtaining a driving license involves opening a traffic file at an approved driving center, completing an eye test, attending driving classes, and passing tests set by the traffic authority. Required documents include a copy of the applicant’s passport, residence visa, Emirates ID, two photographs, and an eye test report. Some applicants may also need a no-objection letter from their sponsor. The RTA also highlighted the availability of various e-services, such as applying for a light vehicle driving license through the Ministry of Interior or renewing licenses online. UAE and GCC citizens can renew their licenses for 10 years, while residents can renew theirs for five years. Traffic fines must be settled before renewal, and a monthly fine of Dh10 will be imposed for late renewals. The authority stressed that following the proper procedures is essential for maintaining the integrity of the driving license system in the UAE and warned that any attempts to circumvent the process through bribery would lead to severe consequences.
