The bus on demand in Dubai. RTA
The newly launched bus pooling service on Business Bay in Dubai will now cost only Dh2 per trip instead of Dh5, according to the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA). “The fare reduction initiative for the bus-on-demand service in Business Bay area will enhance traffic flow, contributing to smoother movement in this vital area," said Adel Shakri, Director of Planning and Business Development at RTA’s Public Transport Agency. It is part of the RTA’s newly launched Bus Pooling initiative, revolutionizing public transport with dynamic, on-demand minibuses tailored to passenger needs. Designed to enhance convenience, the service allows users to book rides via the smart apps like he Dubai Bus On-Demand, offering flexible routes and competitive fares. Three other smart apps – Citylink Shuttle, DrivenBus, and Fluxx Daily – facilitate bookings. Each company manages 20 minibuses with capacities ranging from 13 to 30 passengers. The app connects selected areas with small public buses, allowing users to determine their route from the starting point to their destination. Fares are paid directly through the app. "This is a game-changer for public transport in Dubai," said Ahmed Hashim Bahrozyan, CEO of RTA’s Public Transport Agency. Initially available in Deira, the service connects key locations, including Business Bay, Dubai Mall, and Mirdif. Passengers can opt for single trips or subscribe weekly or monthly. A fleet of 42 buses will be serving the network and the RTA plans to expand the service to 10 areas by June 2025. Unlike traditional buses, these minibuses operate without fixed routes. "Our smart algorithms identify optimal routes based on passenger demand," Bahrozyan explained. The fares are dynamic, reflecting travel distance and demand. For instance, shorter trips during peak hours may cost slightly more, while off-peak rates remain economical.
