More than 25,000 participants gathered in Abu Dhabi on Saturday (April 18) for the “Run for the Nation” fun run, turning the capital into a vibrant display of unity and community spirit. The event, organised by the Zayed Charity Run Higher Organising Committee in cooperation with the Abu Dhabi Sports Council and the National Projects Office, brought together people from all walks of life. Described by organisers as a “powerful national scene reflecting the country’s deeply rooted values of unity, inclusivity, and social solidarity,” the run highlighted the strong sense of belonging among residents across the UAE. The race began at Wahat Al Karama at 8am and concluded at Erth Abu Dhabi Hotel, following a route rich in national symbolism. A highlight of the morning was an aerial display by Fursan Al Emarat, which painted the sky in the colours of the UAE flag, creating a striking visual tribute to national identity. Participants included families, youth, senior citizens, People of Determination, and professional runners, reflecting the diversity of the UAE community. Mohammed Hilal Al Kaabi, Chairman of the organising committee, said the strong turnout showed the importance of national initiatives in bringing people together. “What we are witnessing today in terms of strong community presence and active participation from all age groups reflects the importance that national initiatives hold within the collective consciousness of UAE society,” he said. “The ‘Run for the Nation’ brings these values to life in a practical way, reinforcing social cohesion and solidarity while promoting healthy and active lifestyles.” After the race, participants gathered at a community village at Erth Abu Dhabi, where activities and entertainment created a festive, family-friendly atmosphere.
