Thousands of residents are expected to lace up their running shoes for a community race that blends fitness with national pride on Saturday (April 18). The Supreme Organising Committee of the Zayed Charity Run, in cooperation with the Abu Dhabi Sports Council and the National Projects Office, has announced the “Hassantak Ya Watan” or “Run for the Nation” race, set to begin at 8am at Wahat Al Karama. Organisers said the event is open to all, featuring a single 5km category designed for participants of different ages and fitness levels. Participation is free, with organisers assuring that high standards of safety and organisation will be in place. Residents are encouraged to register online here. The race carries a deeper meaning, taking place at one of the UAE’s most important national landmarks, which honours the country’s fallen heroes. Officials said the initiative aims to promote physical fitness while strengthening values of loyalty and belonging. Retired Lieutenant General Mohammed Hilal Al Kaabi, Chairman of the Supreme Organising Committee of the Zayed Charity Run, said the event reflects the UAE leadership’s vision of building a cohesive and active society. He said the race “carries a profound humanitarian and national message, combining sport with appreciation for the efforts of the frontline defenders, and fostering a spirit of belonging and social cohesion.” Al Kaabi added that the event welcomes everyone who considers the UAE their home. “It provides an opportunity to express their belonging and loyalty regardless of background, nationality, or pace,” he said.
