A Salik tag is essential for driving in Dubai, as it allows you to pass through toll gates smoothly. But did you know a small mistake in installing it could make it unreadable? Here are three simple mistakes that you should avoid when installing it: - Do not remove the tag after you install it; this could damage it. - Do not transfer the tag to another car; each Salik tag is meant for one specific car only. - Do not cut or fold the tag; this will damage it and prevent it from being read properly at toll gates. Where should the Salik tag be placed? According to Salik, the tag should be placed at the top centre of your windshield. It should be positioned one centimetre below your rearview mirror. If your car has a metallic or metallised windshield, the Salik tag should be placed on the dotted area of the windshield. If the windshield has a darker tinted area, place the tag on the lighter area of the windshield. You will receive an envelope providing detailed instructions as soon as you purchase a new Salik tag. What if I get a new car? If you get a new car, you will need to buy a new Salik tag. For multiple cars, you can link and manage several tags through your Salik account using either the Smart Salik app (available on Apple and Android) or the website at salik.ae. What should I do if my Salik tag is damaged? If your Salik tag is damaged, you must buy a replacement. Salik is an electric toll system in Dubai that operates using Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) which allows to read the tags. It was launched by the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) on July 1, 2007. Motorists are required to buy a Dh100 Salik tag that will be placed on their windshield. Dh50 for the tag and a Dh50 balance being added to their account. Dh4 will be deducted from their account each time they pass through a toll gate. FLE/Expat Media
