An American citizen who had been found guilty of killing his father was executed by Saudi Arabia on Wednesday (August 16). The man was identified as Bishoy Sharif Naji Naseef, who admitted that he tortured and strangled his Egyptian father to death. According to the Interior Ministry, Naseef used drugs and mutilated his father's body after the murder, and then attempted to murder another person before being arrested. The Interior Ministry did not detail how Naseef was executed, but Saudi Arabia typically beheads those who are given the death penalty. Vedant Patel, the spokesperson for the US State Department, said that American diplomats paid Naseef a visit in July and that he was not identified as being wrongfully detained before his execution.
