Abu Dhabi’s Department of Municipalities and Transport (DMT) has introduced two state-of-the-art bridges designed to cut traffic delays by 80 percent during peak hours. Connecting Al Khaleej Al Arabi Street to Shakhbout Bin Sultan Street and Mussafah, the Dh315 million project can accommodate up to 7,500 vehicles per hour, significantly alleviating congestion. One bridge features three lanes on Al Khaleej Al Arabi Street, while the second offers two lanes linking Shakhbout Bin Sultan Street. Spanning 742 meters, the bridges boast a surface area of over 10,000 square meters and include ramps extending 990 meters. Equipped with 61 energy-efficient streetlights, the project prioritizes safety and sustainability. The project incorporates cycle and pedestrian paths to encourage alternative modes of transport. Additionally, it is future-ready, with plans for an underpass already integrated into the design. Using over 15,000 cubic meters of concrete, the project ensured environmental standards were met, upgrading 46,000 square meters of landscaping. The construction achieved three million safe man-hours with zero lost-time incidents. DMT Chairman Mohamed Ali Al Shorafa emphasized, “This project reflects our commitment to creating a connected, liveable city with sustainable infrastructure that meets the demands of a rapidly growing population.” Developed in collaboration with the Integrated Transport Centre, the bridges will serve key locations, including Zayed International Airport and Hudayriyat Island.
