UAE residents have taken to social media to warn others about scammers sending fake emails purportedly from Dubai Police. Dubai Police has repeatedly warned residents against engaging with such emails, adding that the police force will never ask for money or banking details. Juris (full name withheld) said he was surprised to receive the purported email from Dubai Police regarding a traffic violation. "I immediately knew this was a scam because I don't drive," he said. The fake email warns residents that they need to clear a Dubai Police fine and then provides a link to a payment gateway that will then ask for their banking and personal details. Dubai Police fines can be cleared by online payment through the Dubai Police website or app, which also allows  the user to find out more details about the fine. Phishing attacks have increased in the Middle East and Africa region, with reports saying that these are the common ways that cybercriminals use to target victims’ banking details. Often times, the attacks are sent via email where users are directed to unknown links that, when downloaded, contain malware that then leaves their devices susceptible to hackers. ICA/Expat Media
