New scam uncovered after jobseeker receives job offer "too good to be true"

  ABU DHABI - Jobseekers have been warned against a new scam where fraudsters send offers of a high-paying job at New York University Abu Dhabi (NYUAD). The scam was uncovered after NYUAD was informed of a fake job offer letter that had its name and logo, XPRESS reported on Wednesday (March 8). "This letter was not issued by NYU Abu Dhabi and does not represent a legitimate offer of employment with the University. Information about NYU Abu Dhabi and its official recruitment process is available on the NYU Abu Dhabi website: nyuad.nyu.edu," the NYUAD administration team said in a statement. An Indian jobseeker received the fake offer letter of a job as academic associate at the salary. The salary? Dh45,000 per month. "I instantly knew it was a scam. First, the offer was too good to be true and second, it instructed me to call a purported travel agent in Abu Dhabi on a cellphone to process my documents," the woman said, adding that a quick research on the internet revealed several similar scams. This is not the first time that fraudsters have used companies to exploit jobseekers. Fraudsters also sent out fake job offers using companies like Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi, Adnoc, Etihad and Emirates airline to lure jobseekers.
