Dubai residents are on high alert due to an increasing wave of scam messages impersonating Dubai Police and Aramex, targeting iPhone users through Apple's iMessage service. Victims report receiving messages that falsely claim to be from Dubai Police, demanding immediate payment for fines or incomplete package deliveries. A resident shared her experience with Expat Media, explaining that she received a message stating that she had missed a highway toll payment. "The message came from an unknown number, saying I had 24 hours to pay or face consequences," she said. The message included a link to the website "https://dubaipopiqw.com/U," instructing her to open it via Safari for verification. These fraudulent messages exploit the recognition of Dubai Police and Aramex brands, deceiving recipients into sharing sensitive information. Scammers also send fake notifications purportedly from Aramex, stating that a package couldn't be delivered due to incomplete information. Clicking on the embedded link could lead to potential data theft. The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) clarified that the Salik toll system is managed exclusively through official channels such as rta.ae and customers.salik.ae. They urged the public not to trust third-party websites claiming to process toll payments. Apple has issued an advisory urging users to be vigilant against social engineering scams. "If you believe your Apple Account has been compromised, change your password immediately and enable two-factor authentication," Apple advised. The tech giant also encourages users to report spam through the iMessage "Report Junk" feature. Residents are reminded to verify the legitimacy of any messages requesting personal or financial information, particularly when claims appear urgent.
