Search on for Indian man swept by flood in Khor Fakkan

KHOR FAKKAN - A search operation has intensified to find a young Indian man who was swept away by floodwater in Khor Fakkan, with police from three emirates leading search efforts. Police from Abu Dhabi, Dubai and Sharjah have joined forces to search for Albert Joy, 18, who was swept away by currents when his group's four-wheel drive vehicle got caught in surging floods in a Khor Fakkan valley on Thursday. A white shirt, believed to have belonged to Joy, was the only item that police recovered from the search area so far. Joy is a student at Birla Institute of Technology Offshore Campus, Ras al Khaimah. Police said that an Emirati man and his employees were able to rescue Joy's five companions, aged between 22 and 23, during Thursday's incident. The rescuer, Khalifa Ali Bin Saeed Al Naqbi, said that Joy had refused to leave his father's vehicle and jump into the water. The young man was last seen drifting away in the floodwater. A video footage of the incident showed two rescuers standing on the vehicle's roof, while two others on the banks of the wadi tried to coordinate rescue efforts. Police said that the group was trying to cross a stream in a valley when it started to rain heavily, causing quick flooding that eventually swept away the vehicle.
