Search for UAE's best labour accommodation

  DUBAI - The hunt has begun for the best labour accommodation in the UAE, with the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (MOHRE) announcing the launch of the competition "to ensure workers' happiness". MOHRE also launched a second competition on the “Top Shuttle Bus Service” in the country. So what does it take to be adjudged as best labour accommodation in the UAE? Maher Al Obaid, assistant undersecretary for Inspection Affairs at the ministry and head of the Workers Happiness Pursuance Committee, said there are several criteria. Al Obaid said that the committee will look at whether the accommodation passes basic housing requirements such as safety, health care facilities and drinking water supply. The accommodation must also have a maximum of five workers per room. Other extras will also help the accommodation score points, such as better kitchen facilities, lounges, more bathrooms, laundry services and gyms. Accommodations that have internet services, shopping centres, reading rooms and community activities will also score high. On the search for the UAE's “Top Shuttle Bus Service”, companies with at least 5,000 workers can compete in the competition. There are two basic criteria: ensure labour safety and security standards and introduce comfort and happiness gears on board. Winners of the competition will be announced in May.
