The second batch of Filipino amnesty applicants has successfully repatriated to the Philippines on Thursday (September 19) after regularising their status through the ongoing UAE amnesty programme. They arrived at Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) on Friday (September 20) and were immediately given financial assistance and other government aid by the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW). The batch is composed of 45 Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs), 20 from Dubai and 25 from Abu Dhabi. Among the repatriates were OFWs who were undocumented for extended periods, parents, and their minor children, and individuals with medical conditions. The repatriates were assisted with their consular documents by the Philippine Embassy in Abu Dhabi and the Philippine Consulate General in Dubai. They also received assistance with their travel arrangements from the Migrant Workers Offices in Abu Dhabi and Dubai, in collaboration with the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA). Philippine Ambassador to the UAE, His Excellency Alfonso Ver, tasked Consul General Marford M. Angeles of the Philippine Consulate in Dubai to lead the airport team. He personally accompanied the repatriates to the boarding gate, ensuring a smooth and safe departure from the UAE. The first batch of Filipino repatriates from UAE arrived at Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) last September 13. The visa amnesty programme in UAE will run until October 31 and will cover all types of visas including tourist and expired residency visas. During the programme's first week, the Philippine Embassy in Abu Dhabi and the Philippine Consulate General in Dubai have assisted 2,053 overstaying Filipinos. The Philippine missions, in earlier statements, urged Filipinos with visa issues to take advantage of the amnesty and advised them to visit the Embassy or Consulate to inquire about how they could fully benefit from the program. They assured that those who come forward will be provided assistance subject to existing laws and regulations. They also cautioned against dealing with unauthorized individuals or entities during the amnesty application process and reminded Filipinos to conduct all transactions through the Philippine Embassy or Consulate or the appropriate UAE authorities to ensure the accuracy and legitimacy of the information and services provided.
