Self-driving cars will be launched by Uber in Abu Dhabi later this year and will be available for commuters through the Uber app. The ride-hailing company has teamed up with China's WeRide to introduce several self-driving vehicles to its platform. However, the number of self-driving cars to be deployed by Uber in Abu Dhabi has not yet been revealed. In 2023, WeRide was granted the first national licence for self-driving vehicles on UAE's roads. This licence allows WeRide to conduct road tests and operate self-driving vehicles in the UAE. This was also recognized as the first national-level autonomous driving licence in the Middle East and even worldwide. WeRide’s partnership with Uber is expected to be a new gateway for the company to grow beyond China, while Uber moves a step closer to adding robotaxis to its platform. In August, General Motors' robotaxi unit, Cruise, also partnered with Uber to introduce their self-driving vehicles in UAE on the Uber platform, starting next year. FLE/Expat Media
