Shahid Kapoor faces lawsuit over mosquito breeding spots

  MANILA - For failing to abide by the rules, Bollywood actor Shahid Kapoor could be facing charges over mosquito breeding spots at his home. The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) said it was bent on filing a case against Kapoor after an investigating team found breeding spots of the dengue-causing yellow fever mosquito in the swimming pool inside the actor's home in the Juhu Tara Road area. Padmaja Keskar, BMC's executive health officer, said that he has asked the department to file a court case against the actor for his negligence a day after a notice was sent to him on Friday. Under the law, Kapoor needs to respond to the notice that was sent to him. Keskar, however, said that they will no longer wait for the actor's response and would file the case in court. Kapoor only expressed concern over the breeding spots at his home and thanked the civic body for conducting the inspection. More court cases are also being filed against a number of people whose homes were found with mosquito breeding spots. The civic body has already filed 927 cases against offenders and collected fines amounting to Rs2.7 million (Dh147,430). Actors Anil Kapoor, Juhi Chawla and singer Amit Kishore Ganguli were also served notices by the BMC last year for not taking steps to prevent mosquito breeding in their residences. The BMC's action was prompted by the increase in the cases of dengue fever in the metropolis after it has experienced a rise in temperature and the intermittent showers have left pools of stagnant water in several areas of the city. According to the BMC Health Department, 122 dengue patients were being treated at hospitals in the city.
