Sharjah Airport records over 3 million passengers in Q1 of 2022

In the first quarter of 2022, over three million passengers passed through Sharjah Airport, up from 1.3 million passengers in the same period the previous year. The number of flights for the same period increased by 89%, to 21,336 from 11,279 the previous year. The airport handled over 39,566 tonnes of cargo in the first three months of this year, up 26.39 percent from the same period last year, with 14,457 tonnes in March alone. "The ease of international travel restrictions as well as the gradual recovery from COVID-19, allowed airlines to resume their previously suspended flights, resulting in an improved growth rate. "This is also in line with the Sharjah Airport’s commitment to providing the highest levels of safety and security for customers during the pandemic, making traveling from and to the city of Sharjah a safe and enjoyable experience," said Ali Salim Al Midfa, Chairman of the Sharjah International Airport Authority. He added that the Sharjah Airport has gained its passengers' trust through expansion and innovative methods, as well as developing collaborations by attracting new airline and cargo firms. This strategy aligns with their goal of being one of the region's top five airports, providing an amazing travel experience and industry-leading services. Moreover, during the first quarter of this year, Sharjah Airport continued to serve customers with the most innovative and modern services while assuring their safety and security. In addition, the airport recently obtained the 'Best Airport in the Middle East' award in the 5 to 15 million passengers per year category, as well as the 'Voice of the Customer' accreditation from the Airports Council International (ACI).
