Sharjah approves Dh74 million compensation to property owners in Kalba, Khorfakkan
Homeowners affected by ongoing development projects in Khorfakkan and Kalba will be getting financial compensation totaling Dh74 million. Dr. Sheikh Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, approved a budget of Dh61 million to compensate those affected by the Khorfakkan Wall project and Dh13 million to compensate the owners of 22 old homes in Al Turaif area in Kalba. Dr. Sheikh Sultan also approved the change of name from "Al Ghail Dam" in Kalba to “Al Freesh Dam”. The Sharjah ruler also approved new administrative divisions in the city of Kalba, including Al Freesh, Al Ghail, Al Saf, Al Dahiyat, Al Soor, and Al Turaif, with Al Qalaa, Al Mughaidir, and Khor Kalba considered part of the city of Kalba. Sharjah's Kalba and Khorfakkan areas have seen massive development in recent years, with the emirate keen to boost tourism there. In Kalba, Dr. Sheikh Sultan has ordered the development of hanging gardens, in addition to a 2km-long Yahar Lagoon project. Wadi Al Ghail is being developed with spaces for camping, mountain hike and mobile food carts. In Kalba, the biggest project that has been completed is the Kalba Corniche, which extends over 9.5km and features restaurants, shops, recreational facilities, green parks, children's play areas, a jogging track and other playgrounds for adults.
