Sharjah will introduce electronic toll gates as part of a new resolution approved by the Sharjah Executive Council. The decision was made during a council meeting chaired by Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammed bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Crown Prince and Deputy Ruler of Sharjah. Under the resolution, existing truck toll gates will be converted into electronic gates known as “Masaar.” The new system is designed to regulate truck movement, streamline crossing procedures and improve overall traffic flow across the emirate. Authorities said the move will enhance transport efficiency, strengthen road safety and support Sharjah’s digital transformation strategy. Further operational details and implementation timelines for the Masaar toll system are expected to be announced in due course. The council said the initiative aims to modernise services while supporting the emirate’s broader development plans. During the meeting, members also reviewed government performance and discussed legislation aimed at improving institutional efficiency and service quality. The council also approved a draft law to regulate the Correctional and Punitive Institution in Sharjah. The proposed legislation aims to define institutional policies, implement specialised reform programmes and protect the dignity and rights of inmates. The draft law will now be referred to the Sharjah Consultative Council to complete the legislative process. ICA/Expat Media
