Sharjah arrests visa overstayers following tip-off from Emirati

Following a tip-off from a UAE citizen, Sharjah police have arrested a number of visa overstayers loitering public places in the emirate. Police said the men were sleeping in a public area in Sharjah. When police checked their status, it was revealed that all of the men have overstayed their visa. Meanwhile, police honored Emirati Ali Mohammed Al Suwaidi who tipped off police about the men. Colonel Youssef bin Harmoul, Director of the Comprehensive Police Stations Department at Sharjah Police, handed Al Suwaidi a certificate of appreciation. Al Suwaidi had spotted the men sleeping in public and informed police about their situation. The Emirati said he was moved by his sense of duty to society. “Al Suwaidi was honoured for his security sense, and he is considered to be a role model who can motivate others to contribute towards supporting the security agencies in ensuring the safety and security of society,” according to Sharjah Police.
