The Sharjah Book Authority (SBA) has announced the opening of submissions for the 8th edition of the Turjuman Award, one of the world’s richest literary translation prizes with a total value of Dh1.4 million. The award recognizes the best foreign-language translation of an original Arabic literary work, highlighting Sharjah’s mission to expand the global reach of Arab creativity. Ahmed Al Ameri, CEO of SBA, said the prize reflects the vision of His Highness Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, and the leadership of Sheikha Bodour bint Sultan Al Qasimi, Chairperson of SBA. “Translation is an essential force in fostering shared understanding between civilisations. Every translated work stands as a bridge that links Arab culture to global communities,” Al Ameri said. Publishers can submit entries until September 15, with winners to be announced during the 44th Sharjah International Book Fair. The prize is divided among contributors: the translator receives Dh100,000, the original Arabic publisher gets 30 percent of the remaining fund, and the international publisher 70 percent.
