Sharjah is set to become home to the region’s largest and most advanced media hub following the approval of a major package of media projects in Sharjah Media City (Shams) by Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah. At the centre of the plan is the newly announced “Shams Studios,” a large-scale production complex that will feature five state-of-the-art studios ranging from 1,500 to 3,400 square metres. Designed to meet the needs of film, television, and digital creators, the studios will include dedicated editing suites, visual effects rooms, and sound design facilities built to international standards. The development also includes an integrated government media business complex that will bring together the Sharjah Media Council, the Sharjah Government Media Bureau, and media companies operating within Shams under a single, interactive campus to enhance collaboration, production efficiency, and government communication. The complex will comprise four buildings, each with five floors. A new headquarters for the Sharjah Broadcasting Authority will also be constructed, complete with next-generation broadcasting infrastructure designed to strengthen the Emirate’s ability to deliver diverse, high-quality content. Phase one will include an administrative building, a dedicated news building, and a new facility for Sharjah Sports Channel. Supporting Sharjah’s creative ecosystem, the approved projects include the “Shams Creative Oasis,” a 700-seat events and performance venue designed to host community programmes, artistic showcases, and education-focused activities aimed at nurturing young talent and stimulating cultural innovation. Once completed, the Shams Studios development will form the biggest unified government media hub in the UAE and the region, bringing together all major Sharjah media entities under one umbrella.
