Sharjah: Customs thwarts 5 drug smuggling attempts in a month

The Port Khalid Customs Centre at Sharjah Ports, Customs, and Free Zones Authority revealed on Wednesday that it foiled five attempts to import 142.73 kg of cocaine into the country in December 2022. Customs personnel and inspectors at Khalid Port effectively prevented the entry of 500,300 Captagon tablets, 78 rolls, and two boxes of hashish hidden within refrigerator trucks. Sharjah Customs, according to Salem Abdullah Al Zomor, Director of Khalid Port Customs Center, will make every effort to prevent all smuggling attempts through the Emirate's ports to protect the country, improve social stability and safety, support sustainable development, and promote the UAE's position as one of the safest countries in the world. Al Zomor complimented officers for their vigilance and skills, which, along with access to current techniques and technology, enabled them to block smuggling attempts successfully. He emphasized that Sharjah Customs has a sophisticated system in place to prevent all types of smuggling attempts via all customs ports in the Emirate. This system employs cutting-edge worldwide practices to detect and deter smuggling. BKM/ Expat Media
