Sharjah’s city of the future lets you save 50 percent of your water and electricity bill. Where is this possible? At Sharjah Sustainable City, a 7.2-million square foot pioneering community setting the standard for sustainable living in Sharjah. The city is comprised of smart homes equipped with solar panels and energy-efficient appliances. Moving in, you don’t need to pay service fees for the first five years. Sharjah Sustainable City is located in Al Rahmaniya, and is aimed at becoming a blueprint for future cities. It has been awarded the "Best International Sustainable Residential Development" and the "Best Sustainable Residential Development Arabia" at the International Property Awards. Since last year, 280 villas have already been completed. A total of 646 units are currently under construction. When completed, Sharjah Sustainable City will have 1,250 villas. The city is designed to be conducive to walking or cycling, with wide sidewalks and bike lanes connecting all parts of the community. It plans to install 80 electric vehicle charging stations to help residents reduce their carbon footprint. The city has urban farms where you can grow your own food and have access to fresh, chemical-free produce all year round. Its annual farming initiative teaches residents how to select suitable plants for their gardens. The city also promotes local farming. The city’s wastewater is also recycled for irrigation and other purposes. The city treats 100 percent of its wastewater for recycling. Sharjah Sustainable City has a range of multi-purpose facilities, sports and fitness amenities, gyms for men and women, medical clinics, retail stores, food and beverage outlets, and a nursery, all of which are designed to be sustainable.
