DUBAI – An Arab driver involved in a hit-and-run accident in Sharjah has been arrested, according to Sharjah Police on Tuesday (May 17). The incident happened on Monday morning on Al Wahda Street. Police said they apprehended the suspect within 45 minutes of the incident being reported. Police said that the Asian victim sustained multiple injuries after being run over by the Arab suspect’s car. The victim has been transferred to a hospital for treatment. Police said the Arab suspect confessed to fleeing the scene after hitting the Asian victim with his car. He claimed that he drove away because he was “confused and scared”. The case has been referred to the Public Prosecution for legal action. Under the UAE law, a driver that causes a serious accident or injury will be meted a fine decided by the court, and also slapped with 23 black points on their traffic file. Their vehicle will also be confiscated for 30 days.
