The Sharjah International Book Fair (SIBF), one of the largest cultural events in the region, will return on November 5 at Expo Centre Sharjah under the theme “Between You and a Book.” The 44th edition, which runs until November 16, will gather global publishers, writers, translators, and readers in a celebration of the bond between people and books. This year, the Republic of Greece will be honoured as the Guest of Honour, showcasing its rich legacy as the cradle of Western civilization. The cultural programme will include rare manuscript exhibits, theatrical performances, book signings, and intellectual forums designed to foster dialogue between Greece and the UAE. Commenting on the launch, Sheikha Bodour bint Sultan Al Qasimi, Chairperson of the Sharjah Book Authority, said: “We take pride in the fair’s role as a global platform that places Arab culture at the centre of the human knowledge landscape. This year’s theme underscores that the relationship between people and books is a continuous journey where readers uncover knowledge and something new about themselves.” She stressed that books remain vital in bridging cultures and shaping a more enlightened future. SBA CEO Ahmed Bin Rakkad Al Ameri highlighted that the fair has transformed into a “comprehensive knowledge industry,” positioning Sharjah and the UAE as a global hub of creativity, culture, and innovation. Now in its 44th year, SIBF continues the vision of Dr. Sheikh Sultan Bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, who has championed Sharjah’s role as a cultural capital.
