Sharjah Municipality inspectors rack down on a fake water bottling operation in Sharjah. SHARJAH CITY MUNICIPALITY

Authorities in Sharjah have cracked down on a fraudulent water bottling operation where an individual was caught selling tap water as Zamzam water at premium prices. The Sharjah City Municipality, in coordination with the Control and Inspection Department and Health Control and Safety Department, raided a residential property that had been illegally converted into a bottling facility. Officials conducted the raid after spotting vehicles frequently loading bottled water from the residence. Inside, they discovered plastic bottles and cartons labelled as Zamzam water, filled under unsanitary conditions and sold through social media promotions. The man behind the scam was found using a legitimate business, RT Mineral Water Trading Company, to issue invoices. The establishment was immediately closed in coordination with the Sharjah Department of Economic Development and the case was referred to the Sharjah Police for investigation. “The municipality works continuously to monitor negative behaviours that affect community health and takes legal measures against anyone attempting to defraud people,” said Obaid Al Teneiji, Director General of Sharjah City Municipality. All products were seized, and the house was closed as part of the legal process. Authorities urged the public to avoid buying from unlicensed vendors or social media shops unless their legitimacy is verified. The municipality also reminded residents to report suspicious activity by contacting the call center at 993. ICA/Expat Media
