A 28-year-old man is serving a three-year sentence in Sharjah after racking up Dh2 million in debt from reckless spending, police revealed. According to Sharjah Police magazine Al Shurti, the man, whose identity has been withheld, borrowed heavily and issued bounced cheques to maintain a luxury lifestyle beyond his means. Despite a stable income, his salary disappeared within days, spent on entertainment and material indulgences. As debts mounted, he turned to credit cards, bank overdrafts, and personal loans, falling deeper into financial trouble. The breaking point came when he borrowed Dh200,000 from a colleague and failed to repay it. The complaint triggered a string of lawsuits that exposed his financial fraud. Speaking from his prison cell at Sharjah Punitive and Rehabilitation Establishment, the man expressed deep regret. “I thought luxury was happiness, but it was an illusion that ruined my present and destroyed my future. My advice is simple: never sacrifice your dignity or your family’s honour for appearances or temporary pleasures. Live simply, and never take debts you cannot repay.” Police officials said the story highlights the dangers of irresponsible financial choices and urged young people to avoid reckless spending habits.
