Residents and visitors can enjoy free entry to all museums across Sharjah on Monday (May 18) as the Sharjah Museums Authority (SMA) marks International Museum Day with a packed programme of cultural activities. The initiative covers museums in Sharjah City, Khorfakkan and Kalba, encouraging the public to explore the emirate’s arts, science and heritage institutions while learning about stories that shaped the UAE’s cultural identity. SMA is also launching its “Sharjah Museums Passport” campaign until May 31, inviting visitors to collect stamps from at least five museums and share their experiences on social media for a chance to win prizes. The celebration reflects the vision of Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, who said: “Museums are made to educate our children and our future generations.” Activities begin on Friday (May 15) at Sharjah Fort with guided tours, “Cultural Bridges at Sharjah Fort” workshops and live musical performances in a family-friendly setting. On Saturday (May 16), the Sharjah Museum of Islamic Civilization will host museum tours, the “Weaving Civilisations” workshop and a panel discussion titled “Museums: Bridges of Dialogue and Humanity”, featuring speakers from organisations including The Big Heart Foundation, Friends of Cancer Patients and Alserkal Avenue. A café operated by people with disabilities will also be featured as part of efforts to promote inclusion and community integration. On Sunday (May 17), the Sharjah Maritime Museum will hold interactive youth and disability-focused activities under the theme “A Generation United Through Maritime Heritage”, including sign language tours and mobile photography workshops. An accompanying exhibition titled Between the Lines, organised by Art for All Centre – Falaj, will run from May 16 to 18, showcasing works by more than 23 artists, including artists with disabilities. The exhibition explores untold human stories through visual expression and challenges stereotypes around ability.
