Sharjah reviews 4-day work week, sees 90% increase in productivity Sharjah’s 4-day weekly work system introduced by the Sharjah Government has improved productivity and happiness of 90 percent of employees, it was revealed at the Sharjah Executive Council (SEC). The SEC meeting on Tuesday (January 31) was chaired by Sheikh Sultan Bin Mohammed Bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Crown Prince, Deputy Ruler of Sharjah. During the meeting, officials reviewed a study on the new work week system and found very impressive results. The study found that the 4-day work week increased employees’ job satisfaction and job performance by 90 percent, with 91 percent of employees feeling generally happy after the new system was implemented. The shortened work week also decreased employees’ sick leave rate by 46 percent as many were happy to show up for work. The new 4-day work week in Sharjah had a positive effect on employees’ mental health and work-life balance by 84 percent, with 96 percent of workers saying it helped them enjoy the weekly holiday, and majority saying they were able to pursue hobbies and other personal goals due to the new working days. Customers at government agencies who participated in the survey also said they had a high satisfaction rate on the quality of service and performance of employees in general, with a score of 94 percent. On January 1, 2022, Sharjah implemented a 4-day work week after the UAE federal government adopted a 4.5-day work week for the public sector, with half-day work on Friday. In a landmark decision, the federal government also announced a shift to a Saturday-Sunday weekend.
