Sharjah Ring Road is set for a major upgrade after Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, approved a Dh90 million development project to improve traffic flow across one of the emirate’s busiest routes. The project targets a five-kilometre stretch of the Sharjah Ring Road near the Etihad Rail station, where enhancements will help ease congestion on Mleiha Road. As part of the upgrade, the University City Bridge will be expanded to four lanes, two in each direction, allowing smoother movement for motorists and improving access leading toward Rakan Bridge. Sheikh Sultan also approved a second infrastructure project valued at Dh60 million for the construction of a new bridge beside the Martyrs’ Monument in Sharjah. The new structure is designed to provide a direct route for vehicles travelling from Mleiha Road toward Mohamed bin Zayed Road, and for motorists coming from Sheikh Khalifa Street heading toward Mleiha Road. The bridge will feature a modern, aesthetic design intended to enhance the visual appeal of the surrounding area. The approvals reflect Sharjah’s commitment to strengthening its road network in line with the emirate’s rapid urbanisation and growing population.
