Sharjah City Municipality has rolled out smart cars with advanced cameras that can detect numerous violations in the city, including abandoned vehicles and illegal posters. The programme is called Smart Detector and is aimed at “maintaining public amenities and overall aesthetics” of Sharjah. Earlier this year, Sharjah also rolled out smart cars to police public parking areas in the emirate. With the latest Smart Detector, advanced camera technology is used to autonomously detect and record unauthorised posters, abandoned vehicles, illegal waste dumping and other violations, according to Sharjah City Municipality. Reem Abdullah Al Rossi, who leads the innovation team at Sharjah City Municipality, said the system is designed to monitor and automatically report abnormalities and violations using advanced vehicle cameras. The cameras can capture images of the violations and instantly transmit these along with location details to the Sharjah City Municipality control centre for action. Hussein Ali Abdullah, Director of the Information Technology Department, said the AI-powered technology can categorize violations and generate reports with accuracy. Abdullah said that data collected from the cameras is integrated into a comprehensive city infrastructure map, pinpointing areas in need of attention. ICA/Expat Media
