In a compassionate gesture, Sheikh Dr. Sultan Bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Ruler of Sharjah, has ordered the full coverage of cancer treatment costs for a University of Sharjah student, amounting to Dh24,000 per month. The announcement came after a heartfelt phone call on the "Direct Line" radio programme aired on Sharjah Broadcasting Authority. The student, Nesma, shared her battle with cancer and revealed the financial toll of her medical treatment. A scholarship recipient and fourth-year sociology student, Nesma tearfully explained her struggle to keep up with expensive treatment despite excelling academically. Deeply moved, Sheikh Sultan instructed authorities to fund her treatment until her full recovery. In another act of compassion, Sheikh Sultan also ordered that a female citizen be granted maternity leave starting from her date of delivery, to allow her time to care for her infant.
