Sharjah Ruler pays Dh200,000 to release an imprisoned Emirati woman

The Ruler of Sharjah promised to pay Dh200,000 blood money for the release of an Emirati woman behind bars after one of her employees accidentally died through electrocution. The husband of the jailed woman, Abu Mohammad, went on broadcast with Sharjah Radio to explain that his wife got sentenced to prison for an unintentional death. He explained to the state-owned radio station, Sharjah Radio, that he could not afford to pay the blood money. “She is still there because of unpaid blood money. I wanted to sell my house to pay it off, but where would I go then?” the husband said. Al Khat Al Mubasher (The Direct Line) is a popular radio program where Emiratis can express grievances with the government. Sharjah Ruler, Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, is a regular listener of the show. The program host, Mohamed Hassan Khalaf, then informed the husband, saying that Sheikh Dr Sultan listened to his troubles. The Sharjah Ruler promised to personally pay for the blood money to free the Emirati woman. The case of the Emirati woman is not the first time the Sharjah Ruler has addressed complaints and appeals in the radio program.
