Dr. Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, received a Guinness World Record certificate for the Historical Dictionary of the Arabic Language. With 127 volumes, it is now the largest and most extensive linguistic project of its kind. The award highlights years of dedication and collaboration among scholars, researchers, and contributors from across the Arab world. Sheikh Sultan expressed pride in this collective effort, emphasizing its unparalleled scientific value. “This recognition is not just for Sharjah but for all who contributed to preserving the history, sciences, and language of the Arab nation,” he said. The dictionary, which documents the evolution of the Arabic language, involved contributions from scholars in 15 Arab countries. “The collaboration among nations enhances the value of this work,” Sheikh Sultan noted, calling it a testament to the richness of the Arab heritage. Attendees at the ceremony included renowned scholars, officials, and Emma Lewis, an international judge for Guinness World Records. Dr. Amhamed Safi Al Mustghanemi, Secretary-General of the Arabic Language Academy in Sharjah, hailed the project as a milestone in Arabic lexicography. The Historical Dictionary provides detailed documentation of Arabic words, tracing their origins and transformations across centuries. This monumental project aligns with Sharjah’s vision to be a beacon of knowledge and culture.
