Sharjah City Municipality has closed two food warehouses after uncovering banned items and health violations during one of its largest inspection campaigns this year. According to the municipality, a total of 12,256 inspections were conducted on food establishments across the emirate in the first quarter of 2025 to verify compliance with health regulations. “As part of these inspections, two warehouses were shut down for violating health requirements and standards,” said Jamal Juma Al Mazmi, Director of Health Control and Safety Department. “Our teams were able to seize the banned food products before they could enter the market.” Al Mazmi added that the seized items included products not approved for trade in the emirate and those that failed to meet health standards. The municipality confiscated and destroyed the goods as per legal procedures. He emphasized that inspections are based on a comprehensive framework covering food preparation, storage, worker hygiene, equipment maintenance, and cleanliness. Workers are also required to hold occupational health cards and complete training under the Sharjah Food Safety Programme. Khalifa Bughanem Al Suwaidi, Director of Control and Inspection Department, said, “Our inspectors work within a unified system designed to identify and act against practices that harm public health or distort the city’s image.” He praised the inspection teams for their accuracy and efficiency in upholding public safety.
