The Sharjah City Municipality has shut down two popular kitchens in the city for failing to meet health and safety standards during Ramadan. The closures are part of an ongoing inspection campaign to ensure food safety compliance across the emirate. Authorities confirmed that the establishments committed multiple violations that posed risks to public health. However, the names of the closed businesses have not been disclosed. As part of its intensified monitoring, the municipality has conducted 5,500 inspections of food establishments since the start of Ramadan. This effort aligns with its commitment to ensuring that all food outlets adhere to hygiene and food safety regulations. Before Ramadan began, authorities had announced plans to ramp up inspections, particularly at restaurants and food outlets operating during fasting hours. Establishments were required to obtain permits to prepare and sell food during daylight hours, including in shopping malls, while late-night operations required additional approvals. Construction companies, however, were not eligible for these extended permits. The municipality has also launched the Sharjah Food Safety Programme, ensuring all businesses undergo training in hygiene and safe food preparation while implementing an approved Food Safety Management System.
