Big chunk of outlay will go to infrastructure development

  SHARJAH – The emirate of Sharjah has approved a budget of Dh22 billion or the equivalent of almost six billion US dollars for this year making it the largest outlay in the emirate's history. Thirty percent of the budget will go to infrastructure, according to Sheikh Mohammed bin Saud Al Qasimi, chairman of the Sharjah Central Department of Finance through the WAM news agency. The 2017 budget was 2 billion more than that of last year, which was Dh20.3 billion. The rest of the outlay will be used to finance fund economic, social, scientific and cultural sectors projects along with providing social support to its citizens, Al Qasimi added. On the other hand, Tariq bin Khadem, head of the Sharjah Human Resources Department, said the budget will enable the emirate to provide an additional 3,500 jobs to its citizens. Sharjah Ruler Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, ruler of Sharjah had approved Invest in Sharjah campaign which aims to reach out to local, regional and global investors to explore investment opportunities in the emirate and help businessmen "fully capitalize on the unique elements of the emirate". The campaign is in line with the strategy of the Sharjah Investment and Development Authority to position the emirate as an ideal investment site.
