Sharjah teen dies after falling from roof while riding e-scooter

  DUBAI – An Egyptian teenager in Sharjah died after he fell off the roof of a building while riding an e-scooter, according to reports. The teen was identified as Abdullah Hassan Kamel Mahmoud, 17, a student of Al Shola Private School in Sharjah. Mahmoud was riding his e-scooter when he fell off balance and plunged from the roof of the building. Mahmoud was allegedly with his friends in a building near Expo Centre Sharjah at the time of the accident, said Ibrahim Barakeh, director of Al Shola Schools Group. “The family of Al Shola Private School extends its sincere condolences and sympathy to the family of deceased pupil Abdullah Hassan Kamel Mahmoud,” according to a school statement. In January, members of the Federal Traffic Council formed a police team to investigate reckless e-scooter riders in the country following a growing number of reported injuries caused by e-scooter accidents. Brigadier Ahmed Al Naqbi, director of the traffic and patrols department at Ras Al Khaimah Police, said the police committee will look into developing regulations for safer use of e-scooters. “It’s essential we organise the use of such vehicles through legislation that will protect members of the public,” Brigadier Al Naqbi said.
