Three Emirati teenagers lost their lives in a devastating car crash in Sharjah’s Wadi Al Helo while on their way to an iftar gathering, Sharjah Police confirmed. The incident occurred on the evening of March 17, with authorities identifying the victims as M.K.M., M.A.M., and S.A.M., aged between 15 and 18. According to police, the accident was caused by speeding, which led the vehicle to overturn multiple times before catching fire in the valley. Two of the teenagers died instantly, while the third succumbed to his injuries the following day at Kalba Hospital. The victims were members of the same family. The tragedy comes as the UAE prepares to lower the minimum driving age to 17, a change set to take effect on March 29. Under the new regulation, 17-year-olds will be able to apply for both car and motorcycle licenses, a shift from the previous rule that allowed them to apply only for motorcycle licenses. The amendment, introduced under a federal decree law on traffic regulations, aims to improve road accessibility for young drivers while maintaining strict safety protocols.
