Good news for drivers in Sharjah: The Sharjah Executive Council (SEC) has announced a 35 percent discount on traffic fines—but there’s a catch. According to the new resolution, drivers can benefit from the discount if they pay the fine within 60 days of committing the offence. However, seven critical traffic violations are excluded from the offer, said Colonel Abdulrahman Mohammed Khater, Deputy Director of Security Media at Sharjah Police. Here are the violations not eligible for the discount: 1. Excessive speeding 2. Reckless driving 3. Violating truck driving rules 4. Jaywalking 5. Ignoring traffic lights 6. Unjustified stopping on the road 7. Using a mobile phone while driving “These violations are closely linked to serious traffic accidents,” Khater said in a radio interview, “That’s why they’re not subject to discounts under the new policy.” Authorities said the list was revised based on accident data analysis and aims to improve road safety.
