An investigation is underway into the deaths of a 35-year-old woman and her five-year-old daughter at a residential tower in Al Nahda, according to Sharjah Police. Sharjah Police said the case has been officially registered as suicide and referred to Public Prosecution for further investigation. The incident happened at around 7:15am on Wednesday (May 20) at a 32-storey residential building near Sahara Centre, where the family had lived for several years. Witnesses told local media that the woman and her daughter fell from the balcony of their apartment on the 15th floor. The building’s security guard reportedly found the child lying lifeless on the road outside the tower, while the mother’s body was found on the pavement below. Emergency responders and police arrived at the scene shortly after the incident was reported. Neighbours told media that police had visited the family’s apartment a day earlier following a reported domestic dispute. The woman’s husband, who works in Dubai as an aircraft resource allocation officer, has reportedly been taken in for questioning as part of the ongoing investigation. The woman’s sister is understood to live in the same building, while her husband’s family is also based in the UAE. The family is originally from Kerala in southern India. Reports said the couple had been married for 12 years and had lived in the same apartment for more than seven years. The woman operated an online business in the UAE. Her parents, who travelled from Kerala following the tragedy, are expected to coordinate funeral arrangements. Her father had previously worked in Sharjah as a government employee, and both she and her sister were raised in the emirate. Authorities have urged the public to avoid speculation while investigations continue. CAM/Expat Media
