Sharjah’s adoption of a 3-day weekend has resulted in a significant boost in job satisfaction and productivity, according to data shared at the Regional Data and Community Development Forum. A survey conducted by the Sharjah Private Education Authority (SPEA) reported 90 percent job satisfaction since the emirate adopted a four-day work week in 2022. Dr. Muhadditha Yahya Al Hashimi, chairperson of SPEA, highlighted that both students and teachers have benefited from the shorter work week. The survey, which included 40,000 parents and employees, revealed that 92 percent of parents noticed improved student motivation, and 91 percent of teachers reported a better work-life balance. Charlotte Lockhart, founder of 4-Day Week Global, said global companies experimenting with shorter work weeks have seen a 20 percent increase in productivity. "Data collected from over 20 countries show not only maintained productivity but improved well-being and job satisfaction," Lockhart explained. Parents in Sharjah have also noticed better academic engagement among students, with absenteeism rates dropping. Dr. Al Hashimi emphasized, “Schools reported improvements in student attendance and academic achievements." Experts at the forum agreed that the reduced work week model enhances employee well-being, creating a more efficient and collaborative workplace. Anne-Marie Lister, an independent consultant, added that operational efficiency can be achieved by eliminating non-essential tasks, freeing up time for meaningful work. ICA/Expat Media
