Dubai’s Crown Prince Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum was appointed as the UAE’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defence on Sunday (July 14). Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, made the announcement as part of a major reshuffle of the UAE Cabinet. “Sheikh Hamdan is a leader who loves his people and his people love him. We have immense confidence that he will be a great addition to the UAE government and a major contributor to shaping the country’s future,” Sheikh Mohammed said. The changes to the UAE Cabinet were reportedly endorsed by UAE President Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed, who was consulted on the matter. Under the Cabinet reshuffle, Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan has been named Deputy Prime Minister. He will also remain as Minister of Foreign Affairs. Minister of Human Resources and Emiratisation Dr. Abdul Rahman Al Awar will also serve as , who is acting Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research. Sarah Al Amiri has been appointed Minister of Education, replacing Ahmed Belhoul, who will now serve the Sports Ministry. Al Amiri was previously Minister of State for Public Education and Advanced Technology. The Education and Human Resources Council has been expanded to include the Ministry of Community Development. Alia Abdullah Al Mazroui has been appointed Minister of State for Entrepreneurship to “create economic opportunities for Emiratis,” Sheikh Mohammed said.
