Sheikh Hamdan gets updates on the 20 Minute City project under Dubai 10X. WAM

Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum has approved the launch of the 20 Minute City project as part of the Dubai 10X Initiative, a government programme designed to place Dubai ten years ahead of other global cities through innovation. The 20 Minute City project, led by Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), aims to ensure that residents can reach 80 percent of essential services within 20 minutes using walking, cycling or sustainable transport options. The pilot phase has already begun in Al Barsha 2 in partnership with Dubai Municipality and Dubai Police. Under the plan, residents can expect safer roads, shaded pedestrian walkways, expanded green spaces and flexible mobility corridors. The project is designed to improve road safety, encourage healthier lifestyles and reduce reliance on cars for short daily trips. The 20 Minute City is one of three major projects approved under the third phase of Dubai 10X. The other two include a Disease Early Detection System led by the Dubai Health Authority and the City Terminal Project led by Dubai Aviation Engineering Projects. The City Terminal Project is designed to improve travel efficiency and reduce congestion at Dubai’s airports. It will allow passengers to complete check-in procedures at locations across the city before being transported directly to airport departure halls via secure vehicles. This means shorter queues, less crowding and smoother travel experiences. The project is being developed in collaboration with the Dubai Civil Aviation Authority, Dubai Police, Emirates, Dubai Airports, the General Directorate of Identity and Foreigners Affairs – Dubai, and e& Group. Sheikh Hamdan said accelerating government performance remains central to Dubai’s future vision. “Accelerating government performance is central to our future vision. We will continue to empower government entities to pioneer bold, high-impact projects that redefine excellence in public service,” he said. He added: “The Government of Dubai is among the world’s most future ready governments. We have set high standards of excellence in government work, and we will continue our journey of progress without pause.” The three projects were selected from 79 proposals developed by more than 120 employees representing 33 government entities. They were evaluated based on impact potential, implementation timelines and quality-of-life outcomes. Launched in 2017 by Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the Dubai 10X Initiative continues to focus on innovation-driven government services aimed at improving daily life for residents and visitors.
